Featuring the fashionably angular body styling introduced in mid-1983, Honda’s sporty Prelude 2+2 Coupe quickly earned rising demand as a high-quality personal car with excellent all-around handling and performance, plus great fuel economy and high resale value, to boot. While the car’s basic essence remained intact over the following years, careful, almost relentless, updates made this wonderful driving machine even better throughout its production cycle.
This wonderful find is a one-owner Prelude in top-shelf ‘SI’ tune with an uncommonly low 42k seller-stated miles of use in the Pacific Northwest. Unmodified, undamaged, and unadulterated, it provides an object lesson in caring adult ownership and maintenance on every possible level. While the seller advises there are a few small dents on the right-rear quarter panel, there is no paint damage in evidence, nonetheless. As one would expect of such a top-quality car, the Prelude is offered with a clean title document.
Admittedly, this Zero260 contributor derided many foreign sporty cars in period, choosing instead to rule the streets in a spanking new 5.0 Mustang. However, serving as designated driver late one Saturday night in 1991, a young lady friend threw me the keys to her Prelude – a well-used high-miler from 1986, no less, and the car was simply fabulous to drive, being quiet and very responsive, quickly forcing a change of this writer’s viewpoint forever more. This one is simply splendid throughout and deserves another owner as fastidious as the seller has been since it was new in 1990. It’s not inexpensive, but quality never comes cheap. We’re throwing out the price guides on this one – we have no choice but to wrap that pink Polo sweater over our shoulders, don those Sperry Docksiders, lower those Ray-Bans, pop in a Level 42 CD, and consider this prime-quality Prelude SI nothing less than ‘Worth-the-Premium’. When’s the next RADwood event?
