Based on the Frontier pickup, Nissan’s Xterra compact SUV was produced from 1999 to 2015 along two generations. A great companion model to the full-size Pathfinder SUV, the Xterra rounded out Nissan’s truck-based product range just as the popularity of these on and off-road sport-utility vehicles exploded to phenomenal levels. First-generation models share not only their chassis with the Frontier, they also borrowed the front bumper, hood, A-pillar, windshield, and front doors with it. Second-generation models share the Frontier’s basic platform but feature more distinctive styling.
This 2012 Nissan Xterra comes to market with a reasonable 60k seller-stated miles and features the extremely rare 6-speed manual transmission. Offered in excellent form, it includes 4WD, the towing package, a roof rack, aftermarket Kenwood stereo unit, and more. These capable and agreeable compact SUVs are great alternatives to the far more common Ford Escape or Toyota 4Runner that seem as numerous on today’s roads as Volkswagen Beetles were during the 1970s.
Durable and reliable, the Xterra remains popular, and rightly so. Maybe it will develop the cult following enjoyed by some other long-running sport-utility models, like the original Ford Bronco. Who knows? Despite its popularity, few pristine examples of the Xterra have been offered in collector-car circles over the past few years, but regardless, the Xterra is a vehicle to buy and enjoy now, and any market performance in the future is just icing on the cake. This one looks like a desirable example in great condition and should deliver plenty of enjoyment for the new owner. If it sells at or near the seller’s ask, this Xterra should be considered well bought for the sheer rarity of its transmission, mileage, and cosmetic status.
