While Corvette buyers had to miss the 1983 model year, the wait was more than worth it with the new 4th generation model. Featuring radical lightweight chassis and underpinnings with widespread use of aluminum structures and components, the new Corvette emphasized incredible, 0.90g handling, anchor-like stopping power, and a svelte new wind cheating body design to unlock the performance delivered by its standard 5.7L V8 powerplant. Steady development and improvement by the Corvette engineering team, more accurately described as obsessive, brought rising power and performance with each model year. By 1985, the Corvette was endowed with Chevrolet’s new Tuned Port Injection (TPI) system and power levels rose to 235hp, then 245hp, and then 250 horses by 1990, making the Corvette easily capable of reaching 155 mph, more than capable of outperforming many European sports and GT cars.
This 1991 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible is a fabulous specimen with just 12k miles of use and the driver-preferred 6-speed manual transmission. Finished in white over red leather with a white soft top, it is offered in virtually new condition and has thankfully never suffered the indignities of any damage, abuse, or modification. According to the seller, it benefits from a recent service at a Chevrolet dealer and is ready to drive and enjoy with a brand new set of top-of-the-line Michelin tires.
The ‘C4’ was highly anticipated when under development, with “teaser” images of camouflaged prototypes and test mules gathering plenty of magazine ink during the early 1980s. When the new ‘Vette was finally released for sale as a 1984 model in late 1983, it was a big occasion and the car’s styling and engineering fired up a whole new generation of fans and buyers everywhere. Our subject car looks to be a prime-quality, unadulterated example with the always-desirable 6-speed manual transmission. It’s clearly priced to sell quickly while representing fair value at the seller’s ask and will likely be considered ‘Well Bought’ after some time behind the wheel with the top lowered.
