Introduced in 1984, the 4Runner was an instant hit. It’s compact size, durable nature, and go-anywhere abilities made it popular with everyone, from commuters looking to enjoy a higher seating position, to off-roaders and campers. Finding an original, first-generation 4Runner in condition like this one is difficult, at best, getting close to impossible – the asking price is hugely attractive if this thing is everything it’s being advertised, and by the pictures, we see no reason to believe otherwise.
Named “Ruby” by the seller, this 4Runner has been in the Pacific Northwest for most of its life. The removable rear roof section has never been removed and the bright red paint appears to be in great overall shape, although the perfect amount of fading is seen on the removable top and factory striping. Inside, the 4Runner is fitted with fantastic looking grey interior of patterned cloth with manual windows, manual locks, an upgraded radio, full instrument group, bucket seats, a center console, a 5-speed manual transmission, and of course, the 4-wheel drive controls. Under the hood, the 22RE 4-cylinder engine looks fabulous, as does the entire engine compartment, and the post states it has no leaks.
Already a good deal, the way Toyotas continue to climb in value, it won’t be long that Ruby will be worth considerably more than the asking price. To buy it as an investment, or to flip, would seem logical, but to buy it and enjoy it for a while will prove fruitful, too. A chance to enjoy it, show it, cruise it, and then maybe in a couple of years, enjoy a return on the investment. The market is showing huge interest in classic and vintage Toyotas, especially those of a performance or ute nature like this one, and we’ll definitely call this one well bought.
